Wild-Harvested Sea Moss (Gracilaria / Eucheuma Species)
2 oz - 5 lbs
Product Description
Purple Sea Moss is a wild-harvested sea vegetable sourced from warm ocean waters where sea moss from the Gracilaria and Eucheuma genera grows fully submerged beneath the sea.
The purple coloration is natural and results from species pigmentation, mineral exposure, and environmental conditions during growth and drying. Purple Sea Moss is often chosen for its denser texture and thicker gel consistency.
Key Benefits of Purple Sea Moss
1. Natural Source of Dietary Fiber
Purple Sea Moss contains soluble fiber and complex polysaccharides, which are widely recognized for their role in:
-
Supporting digestive processes
-
Feeding beneficial gut bacteria
-
Contributing to gut microbiome balance
Sea vegetable fibers are unique in structure and have been studied for their interaction with the gut environment.
2. Gut-Focused Nutritional Support
Dietary patterns rich in whole foods and fiber are associated with gut-centered wellness.
Sea moss provides fermentable fibers that interact with the gut microbiome, making Purple Sea Moss a valuable food choice for individuals prioritizing digestive and microbiome-conscious nutrition.
3. Naturally Occurring Minerals
Purple Sea Moss absorbs minerals directly from seawater and naturally contains trace amounts of:
-
Calcium
-
Magnesium
-
Potassium
-
Iron
-
Iodine (an essential micronutrient required for normal thyroid hormone production)
As with all whole foods, mineral content varies by harvest location and environment.
4. Naturally Occurring Antioxidant Pigments
In plant and sea vegetable science, darker pigments are often associated with higher concentrations of polyphenols and other antioxidant compounds called Anthocyanins. They support brain and heart health.
Purple Sea Moss derives its deep color from natural pigmentation and may contain antioxidant compounds that help protect plant tissues from environmental stress. Antioxidants are valued in the diet for their role in supporting cellular health and protection from oxidative stress.
5. Traditional Whole-Food Use
Purple Sea Moss has been used traditionally as a food ingredient, prepared as a gel or added to meals and drinks.
Its thicker texture has made it a preferred option among those familiar with traditional sea moss preparation methods.
Texture & Use
When soaked and blended, Purple Sea Moss produces a thicker gel than lighter-colored varieties. It is commonly used in:
-
Smoothies and tonics
-
Culinary recipes requiring a denser gel
-
Skincare and cosmetic formulations

How to make sea moss gel (quick method)
Sea moss is easy to make into an edible gel that you can add to foods.
- Rinse sea moss thoroughly to remove excess salt & sand
- Soak for about 8 hours in enough water to cover. Add more water as the moss swells to make sure it stays covered.
- Add soaked sea moss + an equal amount of hot water to a blender.
- Blend on high speed for 30 seconds at a time until you get a smooth, pudding-like texture.
- You will need to add more water until you get the right texture. Purple and green sea moss is a little tougher than the gold variety.
- For best results, store in the fridge in an airtight glass container.
- It will be gelatinous when chilled. Always use a clean spoon to serve.
